James Family Collection, 1783-1988.

I.C. James Family Collection. This collection contains letters, photographs, scrapbooks, legal documents, newspaper clippings, ephemera, etc. from various families of Harrodsburg (Mercer County) Kentucky. These families include: the Bell, Briniger, Carter, James, Lillard, Linville, Lyon, Purnell, Slaughter, Van Arsdale, and Whitenack families. Topics of interest in this collection include family-life, horse breeding and racing (specifically trotters), Harrodsburg and Mercer County, Kentucky, and Democratic Party politics. The collection also included the original folders that the records and photos were housed in upon donation. These folders were retained because of the notations and identifications that were written on them by the donor. Much of this information was transferred during processing, but some may have been missed. In any case, it was determined that in their own way they became family document and needed to be maintained in the collection.
